The FDA currently does not approve individual supplements. Rather, if used as a food additive, it grants what is called GRAS status. GRAS stands for Generally Regarded As Safe. The FDA thoroughly reviews each GRAS application. After almost a year reviewing the scientific evidence for safety the FDA recently granted Baobab GRAS status thereby giving it the green light to be used in certain food preparations.
